The SMartha Lab is currently investigating the relationship between metabolomic/lipidomic markers, development of symptoms and outcomes in persons diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). AIS is the leading cause of severe long-term disability and affects more than 800,000 Americans annually. Half of AIS survivors exhibit fatigue and depressive symptoms, cognitive deficits, and poorer functional and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes.

This work is funded by NIH/NINR K23NR016864, STTI/WIN Research Grant (#17775), and AMWF Research Grant, AANN.

Additionally, the SMartha Lab is focusing fall prevention and balance in persons diagnosed with AIS.

I had the stroke. That stroke didn’t have ME!
